A Cameroonian self-taught artist living between the Netherlands and the UK. I recently completed my BA in International Human Rights in London, with a minor in Art History & Criticism. I am currently pursuing an MSc Development Studies at SOAS University of London, with a particular focus on Africa. I seek inspiration in estranged places, while exploring my own identity, nomadic experiences and understanding of diasporic cultures. Living in The Netherlands, England, The US, Kenya, Tanzania, and Cameroon have forged a global consciousness and diverse approach to artistic experimentation. My first love for art was born from my African heritage and cradle: landscapes, sounds, ancestral re-manifestations, gospel, and spirited cultures of Home. I commend the ongoing cultural renaissance in Africa and the Diaspora. Many subjects of my art showcase these visual cultures and aim to cultivate discourse about panafricanism, afrofuturism and social alchemy. As an intersectionalist and ambassador for self-love, other subjects celebrate the resilience of women of color as healers, warriors, and creators. They strive to capture a retrospective alignment between the past and the present. The voice of art speaks in all languages. It can hold its breathe and stop time, tell a tale of emotions or sing songs of freedom. My art aims to encompass aspirations of the voiceful and the voiceless.

Lawrence Kwakye (1972) Is an independent artist, studied design, and works on the cutting edge of art and design. As the son of a Ghanaian father and Hungarian mother, raised in the Netherlands, he grew up amidst an intriguing mix of social and cultural backgrounds and automatically developed a ‘contrasting’ view of the world, essential for the magical layering in his work. Kwakye’s cultural diversity, his sense of aesthetics, his technical innovative drive and his fascination for transition, or in other words the process of change are clearly reflected in his current work. The result is accessible, the viewer picks it up straight away, but then seduces him into a discussion about what you actually see; it is what it is. Harmony versus disharmony. Kwakye’s visual work keeps on communicating.
